Tennis Australia are running a National Deaf & Hard of Hearing Development Camp on 8-9th December in Melbourne.

This will be an opportunity for players from across the country to learn new skills, access great coaching, and meet new friends.

The camp will include both on-court and off-court activities.

National Deaf Tennis Squad Try Outs - June 3rd

Tennis Australia is hosting state-based Come & Try days for players who are interested in trying out for state and national squads. Join us for monthly deaf tennis in Melbourne, on Sundays. All ages, all standards invited. Australian Deaf Games Tennis - November Update

We have a few updates to the Tennis program for the ADG in January 2018 to share.

On Sunday the 21st there will now be a social tennis event, from 10am to noon - this low cost event is open to absolutely everyone, not just those planning to play the main ADG tennis event. The sports fee for tennis is $62, and includes all events (i.e. Singles/Doubles/Mixed). Which is fantastic value for 3-4 days of tennis, if you ask us!

The online registration system may show a higher value during the registration process, but this should be automatically corrected at the final stage.

We're planning to the play the tennis in the mornings, with a round-robin format followed by playoffs for final placings. All entrants will be accepted - and the best performing players from each state will earn points for their state.

On the 3rd Sunday of each month we head to Melbourne Park, for the ACE Tennis Club, organised mainly by Deaf Children Australia. Sessions are run by pro tennis coach Peter Thrupp, who reached the second round of the Australian Open in 1986. Peter grew up partially deaf and attend mainstream schools, and knows first hand what it's like. Sessions are supported by experienced deaf tennis players in a voluntary capacity, and interpreters are provided to ensure everyone can be fully involved.

Congratulations to all our participants who braved scorching temperatures on the hardcourts of the Peake Gardens Riverside Tennis Club during the 2016 Australian Deaf Games.

 Congratulations to Stephen Swann (VIC) who took out the Mens Singles title defeating Cameron Hutchesson (SA) in straight sets and in the Mens Doubles Stephen Swann and Daniel Pigato (VIC) teamed up to defeat the South Australian pair of Cameron Hutchesson and Tony Marchant.

Aussies Bring Home Bronze from Tennis Worlds

In mid-July the Australian Men’s Deaf Tennis team embarked on their trip to the 1st World Deaf Tennis Championships in Nottingham, England, to take on the world’s best from twenty one countries. Arriving four days early enabled the boys to recover from the long flight and adapt to the tournament’s hardcourt surface, official balls and the typically fickle English weather which ranged from sunny warm days to chilly overcast conditions.

The Games Organising Committee of the XVII Australian Deaf Games, Adelaide 2016 is excited to announce we have decided to extend the early bird registration due date from 30 April 2015 to 30 June 2015!!

It was great to see people enjoying some coaching with professional Peter Thrupp and some social hitting on nearby courts on Feb 22nd, capped off by a BBQ and some much needed icy poles!

Deaflympics - Pipped at the Post!

Deaf Tennis Australia sent a team of four males to the 22nd Deaflympics held in Sofia, Bulgaria from 26th July to 4th August 2013. Glen Flindell, John Lui, Jamie Zafir and Stephen Swann met up with team manager David Brady in Sofia for their two week campaign. Having arrived on a Tuesday that gave the team a couple of days to get over the jet lag and acclimatize to Bulgarian time and the warmer weather conditions before competition commenced on the Friday.

Fundraiser for Glen

Many thanks to Bundoora Tennis Club, for giving club member Glen Flindell a hand in his preparations for the Bulgaria Deaflympics by holding a fun and tremendously productive fundraising day alongside their club champs.  A turnout of over 100 people is testament to a fabulous community spirit, and the enthusiasm and generosity of Bundoora club members and friends towards one of our Deaflympic representatives is hugely appreciated.

They've been training hard with three training camps held over the last eight months on the new European claycourts at Melbourne Park under the guidance of expert coach Dan Norris. This year our Championships event will be held at the fantastic Homebush Stadium venue.  Cost for the day is $25, including DTA membership and playing fees.  You need to complete the DTA membership online registration before you can register to play.

2012 Vic Champs - October 21st

The 2012 Vic Champs event will be a day of tennis for all, at a family friendly event.  Entrants in the Championship Singles and Doubles events must become DTA/VDTA members (DTA/VDTA membership costs $15), and then each event costs just $2.50.

There is also a social tennis event (free to DTA/VDTA members, $6 for non-members), intended to give everyone including hearing family and friends a chance to have a hit.  There will be modified equipment suitable for use by kids.

Report: 2012 Aust Deaf Games

Tennis at the 2012 Australian Deaf Games involved 3 intense day of tennis on the blue Plexicushion courts at the Geelong Tennis Club.  All competitors displayed admirable fortitude and competitive spirit, battling the 30+ degree weather, high winds and each other.  With the new competition format every match counted towards both individual and team standings, which made for some close battles for players of all standards.

The NSW Deaf Tennis Championships took place Sunday 23rd October 2011 at Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush.

Well done to the Aussie fellas just returned from competing in Izmir, Turkey, in the Dresse & Maere Cup.  Drawn into Pool B (otherwise known as "the Pool of Death" due the quality of our opposition), Australia's first two pool matches were against seeds France and Austria, and we fought hard but wins were hard to come by and we lost both ties 0-3.  The remainder of the pool matches against Russia (3:0), China (2:1) and Slovenia (2:1) were much more productive, and we finished third in Group B...

USA Deaf Tennis Champs Update

The 2010 USA Deaf Tennis Open, held in Las Vegas in mid July, was attended by four Australian players. Daily temperatures reached 43-45 degrees, so it was a very tough tournament. Most matches were played at the Las Vegas Hilton, with a pool nearby to assist with post-match recovery, which was much appreciated! Deaf Tennis Australia was kindly invited by Tennis NSW to attend the Medibank International Sydney Showcase on Wednesday 13th January. The Showcase was held at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre in Homebush Bay. The purpose of the Showcase was to create awareness and highlight Deaf Tennis Australia during the Medibank International to the general public.

On 21st & 22nd November, Deaf Tennis Australia held the 2009 NSW Junior Deaf Tennis Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre.

On Sunday Oct 11 our Victoria-based players (VDTA) hosted a Come 'n Try Day at Melbourne Park.  Many thanks to the 10 attendees who helped make it a fun afternoon.  There was a big mix of ages from 6 though to 40, and it certainly seemed like everyone was getting into it and hitting some balls!  Stephen Swann was on hand to talk about about his success in the Men's Doubles at the Deaflympics in Taipie, and there were many helpers to help him hold his (suprisingly heavy) silver medal!
